The History of Jakarta is split into three different eras, the first one being the Pre-colonial era. During this time, “Jakarta” was part of the 4th century Sundanese kingdom of Tarumanagara. As always, Jakarta is known for it’s spices but in the 14th century a harbor area known as Sunda Kelapa was one of Indonesia's best trading ports.
This new trading port caused many jealousy problems and therefore countries started to fight over the port and claim it for themselves. Finally a Javanese general conquered the port and renamed it Jayakarta. The Dutch and Prince Jayawikarta were both close with this general so the two formed an alliance and were both known for trading together.
